학술대회 Workshop & Plenary Speech 안내

September 28(Fri.) Workshop

     Aleidine J. Moeller(Universityof Nebraska-Lincoln) & Edith S. Greer(University ofNebraska-Lincoln)

Topic: Focus Learning with Can-DoStatements: The Power of Student Involvement in the Learning Process

Too often learnersare seen as subjects of assessment, not users of assessments. Learning targets, expressed in terms of Can-Do Statements provide an important venue for settinglearning goals to provide language learners the opportunity to take responsibilityfor their own learning through the establishment of positive short-andlong-term learning goals and to monitor their own learning experiences toensure accomplishment of these goals. The NCSSFL/ACTFL Can-Do Statementsconsist of authentic functional language objectives that guide teachers andlearners in the language learning process to ensure continual language andintercultural communication development. These Can-Do Statements assistlearners in communicating and assessing what and how well they can function inthe target language. Aligned with the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, learnersare actively involved in self-assessment and self-reflection about their ownlearning ultimately aimed at developing self-regulation and self-efficacy.These Can-Do Statements provide a bridge between the instructional setting andthe real-world application of the language learned. Participants will learnabout these Can-Do Statements and experience first hand how to implement themto ensure continual language development.
